Sioux Falls student wins billboard contest

SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – Fourth grader Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School will soon see her artwork on a billboard.

Kaylee McKay won the “job awareness contest” put on by the SD Department of Transportation and BX Civil and Construction.

The competition shows the danger in work zones for workers and drivers.

“The competition was to create ads for construction zones and keep them going.” And I made this sign with a little cone because you have to watch out for cones and when we drive around construction zones and I usually see one or two cones,” McKay said.

McKay was also awarded $25 and his class received $100. The billboard will be placed on Interstate 29 at the Madison-Coleman exit.
