CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) – An elderly couple escaped a burning car in Calexico.
Body camera footage provided by the Calexico Police Department shows the couple’s rescue moments.
The terrible moment happened on Wednesday afternoon at 7-11 on Andrade Avenue.
Police and firefighters at the scene had to break both windows to get both the man and woman out.
“What happened to me was that there was a fire at a gas station, two people were left inside their car. We need to get them out as soon as possible. So, when I got there, I heard the driver say that the husband is trapped,” said Miryam Vega, a police officer who rescued one of the victims.
No injuries were reported and the vehicle was a total loss. The fire occurred due to technical problems.
