CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – Mother Nature has not been kind to the start of the high school football season, with several games being postponed due to the conditions. However, Douglas was able to brave the conditions and start his football season against Rawlins.
The boys host the Outlaws, and they control the ball early. They had a few chances at the back of the net but were unable to convert any efforts, whether the shots were too wide or they met the gloves of Jose Morales. Despite controlling the ball early in the first half, Rawlins capitalized on one of his few opportunities. Salva De La Puerta managed to get his shot off and after it deflected off a Douglas defender, he scored the first goal of the game. The Outlaws found the back of the net again in the second half to close out the Bearcats 2-0.
The Lady Bears had a very different result. Right from the start they provided all the offense you could ask for in the first half, scoring three goals. They were still on the attack when the second half started. Macy Engle scored not once, but twice in the second half to extend Douglas’ lead and put away the Lady Outlaws. Their defense was also on point as they didn’t allow Rawlins to score and that led to a shutout. The Douglas girls team won at home with a score of 5-0.
