Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI)

Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) is the largest trade association of non-commercial songwriters in the world. Founded in 1967, the membership includes more than 5,000 active and professional members in the United States and abroad. NSAI is dedicated to protecting the rights of and serving professional singers and songwriters in all genres of music.

The Nashville Writers Association has become the most important “voice” for every American writer. The organization continues to have a strong record of legislative, courtroom and market advocacy on behalf of the songwriting profession. From changing the US Tax Code to creating a Copyright Infringement Insurance group to owning The Bluebird Cafe, America’s iconic songwriters’ haunt, and purchasing historic Music Row as its national headquarters, NSAI continues to grow in its accomplishments on their behalf. who create music that shows the moments of our lives.

We have a chapter here in Cheyenne, and a Cheyenne citizen who won the opportunity to enter the 2023 NSAI Songwriting and Lyric Competition by retelling a special love story that will never be forgotten and turning it into an inspiration for others. .

Brian said, “I was visiting my mother who was in the final stages of dementia with my father and watching my mother and father interact with each other and it seemed like something else to document for posterity.”

Brian was a finalist in the NSAI 2023 Songwriting and Lyric Competition.

He also said: “The disease not only affects the person who suffers from it, it affects those around them, because it is almost like you lose a person twice, the title comes from a line of a song that he knows. he doesn’t remember but he will, he remembers every time he knew who he was and every time they were able to spend those minutes together, even though they were short.

“If you have a dream, it might not come true right away, but even if you write for 18 minutes a day for a year, you’ve written for 100 hours and you know that you just have to practice your craft and try to do the best you can. Probably can communicate your idea effectively and like I said it’s never too late but never too early.
