Monday Munchies: Polar Bite

SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – A Sioux Falls favorite has moved to a new downtown location.

What started as a craving for shaved ice has become so much more.

“We started with a trailer and then at some point it expanded to the Premier Centre. Then we added the trailer. Then we added Polar Bites on 41st Street. We’ve added fairgrounds and now we’ve added our central location,” Jessica said.

Little did either Jessica or Matt know that their future would include five businesses.

“I fell in love and married Jessica, and when she was pregnant with our youngest, she had a craving for shaved ice, and so we joked for a good five years that there was no shaved ice store here. Why not open one?” and I guess I joked one too many. So now we’ve opened this store and we’ve opened others, and I’m sure there will be more to come. So be careful what you joke about.”

Having four children, the two thought it would be good to show what hard work can get you.

“I think it’s great. I think they are already really responsible kids even though they are young. They’re really good at knowing expectations and setting goals for themselves, I think, because they see what we’re doing. So it’s really amazing for them.”

The support of the Sioux Falls community has kept them coming back for more business ownership.

“It’s great to be a part of the community because people know me as the shaved ice or the ice cream lady. You know, we’ve seen them out and about and the kids are always excited and the adults recognize it. Sioux Falls is a welcoming community for local businesses. It’s like the community seems to be here for business and they really support you and support you in everything you do.”
