EAST MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) – American Muscle Cars 4 U held a fundraiser Saturday at the Rock Island County Fair Metal Revival.
It was a fundraising effort to help provide service dogs to veterans and mental health services to the community.
CEO of the Midwest Animal Treatment and Education Organization, Ron DeArmond, talks about the importance and understanding of this type of event.
“We want to make sure people understand that our veterans deserve our help and thanks,” DiArmond said. “But as a society, mental health is important, and that’s another thing we help people understand is that mental health is not an illness, mental health is something we deal with every day with our physical health.”
A car show competitor from Cedar Falls, Iowa tells us why he loves being a part of these shows.
“You couldn’t ask for a better reason to have a car to support veterans and car show people,” said Jason Moritz. “If you don’t know it, these are really good people to start with, you know, I feel like I’ve found my new family, it’s that we’re down in Cedar Falls, it’s another show for us”.
A local veteran expresses his gratitude, noting how certain events like this make a difference in the veteran community.
“I want to thank the people who do this and raise money for animals and things for dogs and dogs for veterans,” said Dennis Dennhardt, a Vietnam veteran. “And I know a lot of veterans and there’s a lot of help out there. They just need to get up and go out there and ask the veterans to help them and they will certainly do a great job. “
“These car shows make it fun,” DeArmond said. “Our next event is May 27, which is Memorial Day weekend at South Park Mall, and we’re looking forward to having fun there as well.”
