The Sioux Falls author turned the book into a movie

SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – Someone You Should Know This Week is a Sioux Falls romance author whose writing is internationally acclaimed.

Amy Dawes is an Amazon best-selling author of a series of prolific romance novels with an international following.

“I’ve always been a big fan of romance, so when I figured out how to publish a book, I thought maybe I could try my hand at fiction, and that’s how I’m now a 22-book romance author. Dawes said.

Her first book was a memoir about repeated pregnancy losses.

“We’ve lost a total of six babies, and now we have our beautiful daughter, Lorelei, who is 10. I kind of talked about my experience through all these miscarriages a lot in the newspaper,” Dawes said.

Living in Sioux Falls, Amy decided to self-publish and discovered it wasn’t as difficult as she thought.

“With a lot of research and a little help from a local author, I published my memoir called Chavidani Umad. This is a very emotional story. It’s something I’ll cherish forever, but it’s definitely not a genre I want to stay in,” Dawes said.

After receiving positive feedback on her first book, Amy was excited to write more and continue publishing on Amazon and Kindle.

“I think there’s a misconception out there that you have to be traditionally published by a major publisher to be successful as a writer. I am living proof that this is not true. It’s my full-time job,” Dawes said.

One of his most notable books is Wait With Me, which was inspired by waiting for his car service.

“The story behind my book ‘Wait With Me’ is so funny because when I finally got around to writing full-time, I was trying to work from home in my own office and I had a terrible case of writer’s block. . . Then I came to Tire, Tire, Tire for service on my car, and I loved their waiting room,” Dawes said.

The book was so good that a movie company reached out to turn it into a movie.

“Even in the book I wrote, the author had a movie deal with a network called Passionflix. I think there might have been a bit of a show. For all I know, Passionflix approached me and they said, ‘We want a book. let’s turn you into a movie. Is it open to film rights?’ And I said, “Yes! God, yes!”

He was very involved in the shooting of the film.

“They were going to shoot the whole thing in Atlanta, and they had me be a big part of the casting, and I had to be on set the whole time. I had to be on set for three whole weeks for the production of ‘Wait With Me.’ It was amazing meeting the cast, crew and director,” Dawes said.

He owes his success to social media platforms, especially TikTok.

“It’s so humbling. It’s still crazy to me that I have real fans out there who read everything I write. It’s so hard to believe because I’m still a mom in Sioux Falls and I’m a woman. When I got to book signings and things like that and there were long lines of people asking me to sign books, I don’t know how I stumbled upon this amazing community of people who love to read. and they seek it out for themselves. escape and I feel very fortunate to be a small part of this industry,” Dawes said.

Amy is already writing her next novel and urges budding authors to take a page from her book and not be afraid to self-publish.

“As a romance author, I’m always writing. I have another series I’m starting, so I have to get back to writing. The sound of the film is very exciting, but ultimately the fans are ready to get another book from me,” Dawes said.
