SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – Special Olympics South Dakota will host its annual state basketball tournament this weekend at the Sanford Pentagon.
More than 900 Special Olympic athletes are expected to participate. The competition is part of Special Olympics’ mission to provide opportunities to develop fitness, show courage and experience joy through sports throughout the year.
“It’s really a lot of fun,” said Aberdeen resident and participant Victor Weigel. “I am very proud to be in it. I have been there since the 7th grade.”
“And I’ve been her mentor the whole time, so it’s been a fun journey to watch us grow together,” Missy Hill said.
The tournament starts at 8:00 am on Sunday
