Bad weather forever — or not. When The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City premiered in 2020. Heather Gay and Whitney Rose they were best friends, but their relationship has since deteriorated.
The Bad Mormon the author and founder of Wild Rose Beauty are third cousins, but their connection runs deeper than a distant family bond. The duo bonded over the years over motherhood, entrepreneurship and their upbringing in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
According to Heather, the couple first met when Whitney visited Beauty Lab + Laser for help with chemical burns. Whitney later hired her future partner to photograph her for a boudoir shoot, and the rest is history.
“Within five minutes of arriving at Whitney’s shoot, I knew this was going to be no ordinary session,” the esthetician recalled in her 2023 memoir. Bad Mormon. “As soon as I arrived, she showed me the shopping bags she had brought, full of thirst trap thongs and leggings. She had enough heels to make a stripper jealous and just enough cheer to make me feel like I was in over my head.”
By the time the cameras started rolling, the two were inseparable to the point of being partners Lisa Barlow nicknamed them “Bad Weather”. After a few years on the reality show, however, their friendship began to show cracks. The duo hit a breaking point during the third season when Heather refused to confirm Whitney’s claim that she was a partner Angie Harrington she told them lisa slept with someone for utah jazz tickets.
Heather claimed she didn’t hear Angie say that, but Whitney didn’t back down — and the two nearly got into a fight, with Heather pushing Whitney during a girls’ trip to Arizona. The couple seemingly reconciled while filming the third season Ultimate Girls Trip in July 2022, but the détente was over by the time they attended BravoCon three months later.
“We were dear friends, and it seemed out of the blue that you decided to leave me as a friend. And it felt like you were trying to create drama where there wasn’t any,” Heather said during the film RHOSLC panel discussion in October 2022. “And that seems like a reach to me.”
Whitney, for her part, thought the duo were on better terms before they attended the fan event, but she soon realized that wasn’t the case. “I will officially never try to heal with this group again,” she told the crowd. “But we need it.”
