Relay for Life Yuma is hosting its 27th Relay for Life

KYMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Relay for Life of Yuma County “Relay for Life” event will be held on Saturday, the 27th.

The event will be held at the Desert Sun Stadium and will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until 11:00 p.m. The event is to honor cancer survivors and honor those who have lost their lives to cancer.

While this is Yuma’s 27th year of hosting the Relay for Life event, they previously had to relocate the relay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“During the pandemic, we did a virtual relay in 2020. In 2021, we did a lighting ceremony to remember the survivors and those we’ve lost,” said Amber Thornton, director of events for the American Cancer Society. – Relay for life.

Last year “Relay for life” Yuma a hybrid relay for those who can attend the event in person or online. However, they wanted this year’s event to be in person only.

“We’re excited to be fully back in person this year and have everyone there [the] trail, walking laps,” Thornton said.

The event not only featured an opening act, but bands such as the Upper Room Band performed for the audience.
