Pogo Mine Operations is temporarily suspending gold mining

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – Gold production at the Pogo mine has been temporarily shut down for maintenance.

According to a press release from Northern Star Resources Ltd., Pogo’s team discovered damage to the ball mill motor that had stopped when the mill was restarted at the end of the mill. The incident happened on March 15.

A ball mill motor is used to grind raw ores and is essential for daily operations.

The company prioritizes cost management and team efforts to safely return products as quickly as possible.

As a result of the unplanned engine overhaul, production from the Pogo mine in fiscal year 2023 is likely to be affected by 20,000 to 40,000 ounces of gold.

The company expects this repair to take up to six weeks.
