Official Huawei FreeBuds 5 and FreeBuds Pro 2+: everything you need to know

Huawei presented its new smartphones in China, Huawei P60, P60 Pro and P60 Art, together with the foldable model Mate X3 and its new high-end connected watch, the Huawei Watch Ultimate. The Chinese manufacturer took the opportunity to unveil, as usual, its new wireless headphones, the Huawei FreeBuds 5.

FreeBuds 5: a very particular design

As could be expected from the teasers shared in recent days, the Huawei FreeBuds 5 stand out above all for their very original shape, with round and ergonomic stems, far from the straight and sometimes angular stems of some competitors.

Like FreeBuds 4 or FreeBuds 3 – and unlike the “Pro” ranges or the FreeBuds 5i – the Huawei FreeBuds 5 are earphones in an open format. They do not have silicone tips and therefore do not offer passive isolation. However, that doesn’t stop them from benefiting, at least on paper, from active noise reduction. Indeed, Huawei announces a hybrid adaptive noise reduction thanks to the integration of three microphones per headset.

For sound reproduction, the Huawei FreeBuds 5 are equipped with 11 mm diameter transducers capable of reproducing frequencies from 16 to 40,000 Hz. They are also compatible with the LHDC and LDAC Bluetooth audio codecs for transmission up to 990 kbps and Hi-Res audio wireless certification.

As for autonomy, the Huawei headphones have 42 mAh batteries, while their case benefits from a 505 mAh battery. This should allow, on paper, up to 3.5 hours of listening with noise reduction (5 hours without noise reduction) and up to 20 hours with the case (30 hours without noise reduction). The case is also compatible with Qi wireless charging by induction.

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2+: temperature and heart rate monitoring

In addition to the FreeBuds 5, Huawei has also announced a new version of its high-end wireless headphones, the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2+. Designed in collaboration with Devialet, they also offer heart rate and body temperature monitoring, taking up the main features of the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2. We remind you that these headphones are equipped with two transducers per ear, in-ear format and active noise reduction.

Huawei has already announced the marketing of the FreeBuds 5 in Italy. They will be available from April 17 in Italy at a price not yet communicated. As for the FreeBuds Pro 2+, at the moment they have not been announced for the Italian market.
