ND Williston Job Services is looking to fill job openings through an upcoming job fair

WILLISTON, ND (KUMV) – Northwest North Dakota has about seven jobs per applicant, according to Williston ND Job Services. With an upcoming job fair, the department is trying to reduce those numbers.

A total of 93 employers spanning multiple industries will be at Williston State College on Thursday looking for workers. Although it doesn’t feel like spring right now, workforce center manager Paula Lankford said employers want to capitalize on people relocating to North Dakota.

“We’re seeing an increase in the number of people coming back to North Dakota, either for work or because they’ve heard about coming here for opportunities, so we’re seeing some of it for the first time,” Lankford said.

Lankford added that construction and mining jobs are in the highest demand in northwestern North Dakota. He said it’s the first time he’s seen those industries at the top of the list since his five years as director of the Employment Service.

The job fair will be held at The Well (1410 University Ave.) on Thursday from 3-7 p.m. Lankford said people should come to work in uniform, and some employers may conduct on-site interviews.
