“My mom and I decided together to get full custody back because we want to rebuild our relationship as mother and daughter,” Jenelle, 31, exclusively said. Us Weekly in a statement on Saturday, March 18.
The former MTV personality shares Jace with her ex Andrew Lewis. Jace will live with his mother and her husband, David Eason.
“Also, my mother agrees that it’s time for Jace to go back with his siblings and live with his mother and father,” Jenelle continued. “She also thinks it’s important for Jace to be around a father figure to learn ‘boy things’ and have ‘men to talk’. She has seen the way David parent my children and knows we can handle it. We want all of us to get along for the sake of the children and as I said before, to restore our mother-daughter relationship. We officially signed the papers on Thursday, March 16th at the courthouse, done deal!”
The reality TV star is in a steady relationship with Eason, her manager said. “Jenelle and David are definitely together and things between them are great. They are a happy family and are perfectly fine.” August Keen said Us in an exclusive statement on Saturday.
Shortly after Jace’s birth in September 2009, the North Carolina native — then 17 — gave her mom legal custody of her oldest child.
MTV viewers watched Jenelle and Barbara fight over Jace for years Teen Mom 2 the cameras rolled, Barbara often complained that her daughter didn’t do enough to take care of him, and Jenelle accused her mom of not letting her be a parent. Throughout the drama, Read between the lines the author’s substance abuse and troubled romantic relationships only caused more tension between her and her mom—and affected her relationship with Jace.
In 2017, the YouTube personality — who is also the mother of son Kaiser, 8, who she shares with her ex Nathan Griffith, and daughter Ensley, 6, who she shares with Eason — seemed to be in a stable place in her life. She and Eason had bought property, had recently become Ensley’s parents, and were about to get married. Barbara, however, was not invited because she did not feel comfortable giving Jenelle custody of Jace.
“I can’t forgive someone who just won’t give me my son back, so yeah, that’s still going on. It’s not resolved,” the former MTV personality explained Us in that time. “And if I had custody of him now, I might call her, but right now I don’t.”

After the May 2019 incident, Jenelle and David temporarily lost custody of their children. Their custody was returned to them two months later.
“I’m thrilled to have custody of my kids back,” Jenelle exclusively said Us in that time. “Through this long process and final decision, I’m excited to move forward and continue to show America that I’m a good parent.”
Two years later, Jenelle explained that Jace was living with her and Eason more often amid the coronavirus pandemic because the teenager’s behavior “wasn’t very well behaved at my mom’s house,” she revealed in a YouTube video at the time.
“We gave him many, many, many chances and told him to behave and my mom was fed up,” the OnlyFans content creator said. “She called me and said: ‘Yes, that’s it, he’s misbehaving again. I don’t know how he’s going to do his schoolwork and pass if he keeps going like this.’”
