The day began with a Mass at St. Mary’s in Rock Island at 10 a.m., then the Grand St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 11:30 a.m. at the corner of 4th Avenue and 23rd Street in Rock Island. The parade passed through downtown Rock Island, crossed the Centennial Bridge and passed through downtown Davenport. A post-parade ceremony was held in the River Center.
Mr. Thanksgiving was chosen as the Grand Marshal of the Society of St. Patrick in XXXVII.
St. Patrick’s Community and Bend River Foodbank are teaming up to fight hunger in the Quad Cities. The River Bend Foodbank marched before the Grand Parade by collecting monetary donations with the goal of ending the food shortage in the community by 2025.
In addition, CASI’s 41st annual St. Patrick’s Day Race took place before the parade, according to Laura Kopp, president and CEO of Center for Active Seniors Inc., in downtown Davenport. This event is CASI’s largest fundraiser.
