GENESEO, Ill. (KWQC) – Geneseo Police have confirmed that a tornado hit Dillenbeck Drive and Hanford Street Friday night.
Crews from Geneseo and the Geneseo Fire Protection District were monitoring severe thunderstorms Friday and received a report of gusty winds in Colona around 6:21 p.m., police said in a news release.
At 6:28 p.m., officers spotted a tornado on the ground west of the city. According to the police, the storm was moving east towards the city.
Crews remained at the scene and monitored the situation, noting that the storm had lifted at 6:30 p.m.
Within two minutes, several structures were damaged on the ground on the west side of the city. No injuries were reported.
Fragments of buildings have been documented as far east as Central and Main Streets. Police are asking the public to stay out of the area until they determine it is safe.
