Don’t have flood insurance? Now is the time to get it

FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – Spring is in full swing, so now is the time to decide on flood insurance.

The North Dakota Insurance Agency says you need to decide if you’re going to get a policy soon because it doesn’t take effect until 30 days after you buy the policy.

Officials say it’s important for you to fully evaluate your home to see if you’re at risk of flooding.

“Any type of insurance you buy before you use it. So now would be a good time to consider buying flood insurance. There’s no blackout date, it’s an annual program, and you can buy it through your local agent. ” said Janell Middlestead, director of the property and casualty division for the North Dakota Department of Insurance.

Every home is different, so it’s important to talk to your current insurance provider to see what’s best for you.

According to the latest flood forecasts report for eastern North Dakota, there are areas along the Red River Valley that are at risk of moderate to major flooding.
