A St. Jude teacher is showing love to the hospital before the Dream Home Ticket Giveaway begins

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – This year’s St. The Jude Dream Home Giveaway comes with some of the biggest prize packages in campaign history!

Every ticket helps the children of St. Jude and the mission of St. Jude, and we are less than two days away from your chance to attend!

This mission is near and dear to the thousands of people who work at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and each one is special in their own way.

But there is something additional special about Marchetta Brazley-Rodgers.

If his bright smile, contagious friendship and kind spirit don’t grab your attention, his love for what he does at St. Jude certainly will.

Brazley-Rodgers finds much purpose in her work at the hospital.

“When I work with patients and families, it’s very satisfying to help them realize that they are in control of what happens to them and that I can help them realize that,” she said.

For more than a decade, Brazley-Rodgers worked in public schools as a teacher and administrator.

She currently works as a school outreach coordinator for the St. Jude School by Chile program—a job she never thought she would do.

“I knew St. Jude was here,” says Brazley-Rodgers. “I knew that they serve children with cancer, I saw the advertisement, but I didn’t know that there was a place here as a teacher. When I saw that they had a school and that there was an opening for anyone who wanted to connect patients and families with school resources, I thought, ‘That’s me, that’s my jam.'”

Three years later, Brazley-Rodgers is still moving with the life-saving hospital.

The native Memphian holds a bachelor’s degree in music therapy from the University of Tennessee, but she found her true calling when she earned her second degree from the University of Memphis.

The Tigers graduate says he loved his previous job, but he knew he had to go back to school to pursue his true passion.

“Every Monday,” says Brazley-Rogers, “I worked in special education classrooms in schools, and I liked my job, but I loved Mondays. I loved Mondays, and so after about a year of work, I thought I could love my job one day or I could go back to school and love every day.”

Brazley-Rodgers can attest that she loves all five days of her work week at St. Jude.

He cites one of many reasons:

“I was eating lunch and I spilled my water on the floor and I went to clean it up and I couldn’t find it because the floor was so shiny, it was so clean and I thought, ‘Everyone here is proud of what they do. does because they know that in the end, it’s in the service of the children, from the people who clean the building, the people who do medical research, the school coordinators to the doctors, everyone just does things like that. It’s a great job, because we understand what the consequences are.”

A hopeful ending leads to a new beginning: a world where children live free of cancer.
