FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – The University Fire Department was called to a structure fire in One Estates on Thursday, March 30, around 6 p.m.
Firefighters arrived to find the exterior of 855 One Estates on fire quickly spreading throughout the building.
According to press reports, a resident who was inside the building when the fire broke out managed to escape through the window. The resident was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and treated and released. No other injuries were reported and all other residents of building 855 were evacuated.
5 families, 13 residents have been displaced. The Alaska Red Cross Fairbanks office is helping these families.
A total of 34 firefighters from multiple fire departments and 2 ambulances responded to the fire.
Efforts to put out the fire continued throughout the night, with roofs, floors and walls collapsing from the damaged building. The building is considered a total loss. The source and cause of the fire are being investigated.
