LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) – A local man accused of DUI manslaughter last week has been released and the charges dropped.
Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Deputy Ward Calhoun said Ricardo Vargas, 32, was initially charged in the fatal North Drive crash that killed Elizabeth “Ellie” Thrash because he told investigators he was driving.
Calhoun said the investigation found Vargas’ statement to be false. He said Vargas was charged with making a false report, which is a felony.
Calhoun said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
