MINOT, ND (KMOT) – You know his name.
“Being on a different team, I can’t imagine it,” Minot High senior Morgan Nygaard said.
The scariest sound in North Dakota basketball is when Darick Dissett checks into the game.
“I was tired in the state competition. I got gas. At the same time, I was not expelled for any reason. I’m going to go until Coach doesn’t think I’m going to go,” said Darick, a senior at Minot High.
Minot High has a tradition of Mr. Basketball legends.
“I think it would be remiss not to mention Darick in this class,” Minot head coach Dean Winczewski said.
In over 110 years of Magi hoops, Daric is the all-time leading scorer.
“I will not stop,” said Darik.
He also holds the single game scoring record.
“He’s not on any records or anything like that. He wants to make the team as good as possible,” Morgan said.
Top players still feel the pressure.
“I’m nervous all day. But when the news comes, I will be closed,” Darik said.
Even if they don’t show it.
“I don’t see the pressure because he is a quiet kid. “You don’t see him dressed like that when he’s playing, and I think it’s a calming influence for everyone on the team,” Winczewski said.
“I like the pressure. At the end of the game, the coach knows I want the ball in my hands to seal it,” Darik said.
The pressure to break records.
“All achievements are good, but my mentality is to win. I will try to win. Everything else will come,” said Darik.
Pressure to win.
“My mindset is to win, but to give everything I have,” Daric said.
It doesn’t matter to Daric.
Darrick is signed to play basketball at North Dakota State University next year, where he says he wants to get a degree in sports management.
Then he plans to eventually return to Minot and give back to the community as an athletic director.
