WASHINGTON (AP) — Lawyers for former President Donald Trump have voluntarily turned over additional documents marked as confidential to federal investigators in recent months, as well as a laptop belonging to a Trump aide, a person familiar with the situation said Friday night.

The legal team also provided an empty folder marked confidential, according to the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing investigation. It was not immediately clear what material was supposed to be in the folder.

A Justice Department special counsel is investigating whether Trump kept hundreds of classified documents at his Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago. FBI agents who served a search warrant on the property in August found approximately 100 classified documents, including top-secret records. A federal grand jury has been hearing evidence in the case for months. Prosecutors are investigating whether Trump intentionally stockpiled the material and whether he or anyone else tried to obstruct their investigation, court filings show.

ABC News first reported the discovery of the additional documents.

A person familiar with the matter said several pages of classified information were found during a search several weeks ago at the Mar-a-Lago compound overseen by Trump’s legal team and were immediately turned over to the Justice Department. The documents were found in a box containing thousands of pages, the person said. Trump’s legal team has hired investigators to look for any other classified documents the government has not yet found.

Separately on Friday, the FBI searched former Vice President Mike Pence’s Indiana home and found an additional document with classified markings, after his lawyers disclosed sensitive documents last month. FBI officials also searched President Joe Biden’s Delaware homes after his lawyers found classified documents in his former office in Washington and at his Wilmington estate.
