The staff of the Reception and Treatment Center were injured as a result of the attack

LINCOLN, Neb. (COLOGNE) – An inmate of the Reception and Treatment Center attacked an employee on Saturday.

According to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, the attack occurred Saturday afternoon when an officer was escorting an inmate from a holding cell to a bathroom and back again.

The prisoner refused to return to the detention cell and punched the employee in the face. The officer was able to subdue the inmate until responding officers removed him from the area. The injured employee was treated at the hospital for a broken nose.

An investigation has been started in connection with this incident. The results will be submitted to the regional prosecutor for the determination of criminal prosecution.

The NDCS disciplinary process applies with penalties such as loss of good time as per the rules and regulations.
