MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – On Monday, Feb. 7, Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert briefed county commissioners on issues the office has faced over the past few years.
Halbert stated that the team has been going through a number of challenges in the past four years. Among these difficulties, there are a number of unfulfilled requests.
The commissioners were informed that over 100,000 plates had been allocated to the clerk’s office, but only 50,000 transactions had been completed.
“We’ve made enough revenue to clean this office, but the challenge of tying our hands has been tiring, but I’m really proud of the work our teams have done,” Halbert said. “We cannot apologize more to the public for the bad experience they have created and Mr Chairman, we look forward to the opening of the new location.”
While there are still plans to open a new Riverdale location, the office still faces a number of hurdles that have yet to be cleared.
