SDSU’s commencement ceremony has been moved off campus

BROOKINGS, SD (Dakota News Now) – South Dakota State University officials announced Tuesday that the Class of 2023 commencement ceremony will be held May 6 at the Swiftel Center in Brookings.

The school said the move from campus is due to construction at Frost Arena as the facility continues its transformation into First Bank & Trust Arena over the next 18 months.

“Our top priority since commencement has been to ensure that every SDSU graduate has a great graduation experience and can celebrate their academic achievements with family and friends,” said Dennis Hedges, SDSU provost and vice president for academic affairs. “The spirit and tradition of SDSU’s commencement will be on full display in the Swiftlet Center, and we will ensure that many of the unique and special spaces, places and spaces that make our university so special.”

Details of the ceremony

Three ceremonies will be held on May 6, at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 6 p.m., with undergraduates and graduate students attending, depending on their degree-granting university. The distribution of each ceremony consists of:

• 10:00 a.m. – College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences and College of Engineering named after Jerome J.

• 14.00 — College of Education and Humanities and College of Pharmacy and Trade Unions.

• 18:00 – College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Nursing and College of Natural Sciences.

“We are excited to partner with the City of Brookings staff and the Swiftel Center to make this momentous day special for everyone, especially our graduates and their families,” Hedges said. “The relationship between our university and our community is excellent, and these relationships make our commencement ceremonies a priority.”

Each ceremony is ticketed based on capacity, and graduates receive up to six tickets for their guests. Ceremonies will also be streamed live sdstate.edu.
