DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – The former executive director of the Freight House Farmers Market is accused of embezzling more than $10,000, according to court documents.
Lorraine Beeman is charged with 1st degree theft for embezzling approximately $10,500 from the Davenport Freight House over the past two years. According to affidavits obtained by Davenport police, Beeman used the money to renovate his own business, Chill Ice Cream & Eats. Other funds were used for personal expenses — a trailer, an Apple TV and attorney services, the document said.
Beeman arrived at the farmers market in February 2018, five years after converting the facility to a nonprofit. He was dismissed in the fall of 2022.
The farmers’ market receives most of its funding from the membership fees of all the vendors who rent the space. The business previously leased space from the farmers market, but later closed.
Biman court will be held on February 23 at 11 am
