DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – A verdict has been reached in a medical malpractice lawsuit for a surgery that occurred at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport nearly seven years ago.
Friday, a Scott County jury returned a $4 million verdict for the family of Kathleen Hazen after surgery that occurred nearly seven years ago at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport. The jury verdict held Genesis Medical Center liable.
The lawsuit alleges that the hospital and Surgeon General William E. Olsen, MD, was negligent during the laparoscopic gallbladder surgery that led to the death of 61-year-old Hazen, Bririsko media reported. After a two-week trial, a Scott County jury found the hospital liable for Hazen’s death on March 12, 2016.
According to media reports, a jury found Surgeon General Olson guilty of Hazen’s death.
Lawyers from the law firm Bribriesco say they plan to appeal the decision.
