Heber Jeffs was arrested in North Dakota

MINOT, ND (KMOT) – Heber Jeffs, wanted for child kidnapping in Utah, is in custody at the Ward County Jail.

Ward County Sheriff Bob Rode confirmed with Your News Leader that Jeffs was taken into custody by the FBI on Saturday.

According to an Associated Press report from December of this year, police in Piute County, Utah, issued a warrant for Jeffs, the cousin of jailed polygamist Warren Jeffs.

Heber Jeffs, 54, and his 10-year-old nephew were reported missing. The article said he told Rose Jeffs, the mother of the missing girl, that she would not see her child unless she returned to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS).

Rod could not comment on the girl’s condition. Your News Leader reached out to an FBI spokesperson for more information on the arrest of Jeff and the girl.

Online records show Jeffs made a court appearance in Minot on Monday at 2 p.m
