Haywood High School student shot and killed in drive-by

HAYWOOD, Tenn. (WMC) – A Haywood High School student was shot and killed in a car on Highway 19 near the Haywood-Lauderdale county line while returning to Brownsville, according to the Haywood Sheriff’s Office.

The student was in a car with other friends when someone shot at them from another car.

The victim, a 17-year-old girl, was in the back seat and was hit by at least one bullet.

A 13-year-old passenger in the same vehicle suffered minor injuries from shrapnel, according to the Haywood Sheriff’s Office.

The driver was not injured.
