HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Kamehameha Highway is closed in both directions near Waimea Bay Beach Park due to falling rocks.
Motorists are advised to use an alternative route on Sunday.
A Hawaii Department of Transportation official said Director Ed Sniffen is on his way to the North Shore to inspect the area, and they are still working out details, such as how long the road will be closed.
One concerned Waimea resident, who asked not to be named, encouraged tourists to visit another part of the island today to help ease the traffic — “there’s no reason to come here today.”
