SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – Light fog/freezing fog is possible this morning as temperatures drop into the teens. But we should burn off the fog from here quickly and there should be plenty of sunshine around the region today. The warming trend will continue today, with highs in the low 40s in the east to upper 50s in the west.
We’re tracking our next storm system, which will bring widespread rain back to the area Tuesday afternoon. As colder air moves behind this system, the rain will change to snow late Tuesday into early Wednesday. Light accumulations of 1-3″ of snow are possible with the best chance for some isolated accumulations in northeastern South Dakota. Winds will pick up Tuesday night into Wednesday and it will be much colder. Snow can affect your travel Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning.
A second, stronger system will move across the central plains Wednesday night into Thursday. Computer models show a more southerly track with this storm system. Since this has become a trend, we’ve removed the possibility of snow from the forecast for Wednesday night into Thursday morning, as it looks like the accumulated snow will move well to our south. Highs for the weekend should return to the 30s.
