Apple has released its financial report for the last three months of 2022a period representing the first quarter of its fiscal year.
Total revenue and sales are down year-on-year due to limited supply chain inventories. It’s the iPhone that pays the most.
The company has highlighted some of the positive aspects albeit in a scenario that is not easy: there are 2 billion active devices and a record turnover in the services sector.
Total sales for the three months ended December 31, 2022 were $117.1 billion, up from the same period twelve months ago had sales of $123.9 billion.
Net income of nearly $30 billion is down 13% from the previous $34.6 billion. Apple has not revealed for some time the numerical sales data of its smartphones but only the turnover by category.
The iPhone they account for over half of sales, but they are down 8% from last year. The services business reported $20.8 billion in revenue between October and December 2022, an increase of 6% annually.
The only other product category that has seen a slight increase is that of iPadwhich increased revenues by nearly 30%, from $7.2 billion to $9.3 billion.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company has “the best range of products and services ever“. The Italian Luca Maestri, CFO of the company, added that even if revenues – on paper – might seem to be declining, in reality they have grown.
The company generated $34 billion in cash flow and was able to return more than $25 billion to shareholders, with a cash dividend of $0.23 per share.
