Advocates in Hawaii are trying to raise awareness about key tax credits for working families

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Tax season is underway and the extended credit could help many Hawaii families – but only if they are aware of it.

It’s called the Income Tax Credit.

And if you make less than $59,000 a year, you may be eligible. But to get this new tax credit, you must file your taxes in detail.

There are concerns that this important information may not reach the migrant worker community.

On Saturday, the Hawaii Workforce Center held a meeting to inform migrant workers about the new tax credit.

Most of the migrant workers said that they often go to the tax authorities to pay their taxes without installments.

“Good things will come if you wait a little longer,” said Ray, an outreach worker.

The deadline for filing taxes is April 18.
