HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Applications are now open for those who may need additional help paying their utility bills.
The state of Alabama has awarded federal funding for community actions throughout North Alabama. This money is used to cover monthly utility bills for low-income residents. If an applicant wishes to apply, their income must meet the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Applicants need the following at the time of appointment: proof of income, social security certificate for everyone in the place of residence, driver’s license and monthly income documents for the month before your appointment date for the entire household. . If you receive TANF or child support, you must also bring proof of the amount you received last month. Any household member 18 years of age or older who reports zero income or self-employment must submit a completed ADECA Form 125 Zero Income Form at the time of appointment.
Delores Mastin, executive director of Community Action in Huntsville, believes the funding will help ease the burden of high energy costs on families.
“The service and assistance we provide through this program is a barrier for individuals and families who have to decide whether to connect to utilities or buy groceries,” Mastin said.
The program covers heating costs from October to May and cooling costs from June to September.
