A St. Louis officer was injured while running after the suspect

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – A St. Louis officer was injured Friday afternoon while running after a suspect.

Officers were attempting to pull over a Blue Ford Mustang at Bremen and N. 25th Street, police said. As the officers exited their police vehicle, the Mustang fled and a chase ensued. The Mustang eventually lost control and crashed into a curb in the 4400 block of N. Ave. Florissant collided. The suspect left the car with a book bag and fled on foot. Officers say they observed him discharge a firearm in the parking lot.

The suspect, a 26-year-old man, tried to jump over the fence leading to East Grand. Police officers followed him through the fence and managed to arrest him. They also found a firearm and a book bag in the parking lot, which contained a large plastic bag of suspected drugs and a scale. Additional suspected drugs were recovered from the suspect’s vehicle. During the chase, an officer was impaled on an iron fence while trying to climb over it.

The officer was taken to the hospital, treated and discharged.
