A flash flood warning was issued for Kauai as heavy rains moved in; Oahu under flood warning

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A flash flood warning has been issued for Kauai, and forecasters say heavy rain is expected in parts of Hanalei and Waimea.

Around 7 a.m. radar showed heavy rain falling at rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour over parts of the island. Rivers also rose, and officials warned that Kohio Highway in Hanalei could be closed soon.

Meanwhile, Oahu is under a flood warning until 10:45 a.m

Forecasters said the heaviest rainfall will fall in the Koolau Range, with 1 to 2 inches peaking from Kahalu to Hauula. Bands of heavy rain will move east over Oahu by morning.

The National Weather Service said unsettled and wet weather is expected for much of the state this weekend. Heavy rain and isolated thundershowers are possible, mainly in the western part of the state.

The usual pattern of trade winds is expected to return on Monday.
