KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) – The City of Killeen has partnered with the Killeen Housing Authority and other community partners to provide an extended service warming center for those in need Monday through Friday morning.
The Moss Rose Community Center will open for lunch at noon on January 30 and will be open continuously to provide shelter to those in need until 9 a.m. Thursday.
It will reopen at 6:00 p.m. on February 2 and close at 9:00 a.m. on February 3.
While meals are provided, the center does not yet offer full housing services. Urban warming centers are set up for temporary relief from the cold and do not provide full shelter services, as beds or showers are not provided.
To provide a safe environment for members of the public who use this service, All donations must follow these guidelines:
- Call ahead at (254) 327-1164 (ext. 13) to see what’s needed
- It’s food is required in original packaging, not past the published expiration date, and not requiring heat
- Blankets must be new, smell fresh and in original packaging
Unfortunately, Moss Rose Center can NO accept the following:
- New or used toys (including gently used), clothing, stuffed animals, bedding or candy
- Wrapped gift items
- New or used medical equipment or supplies
