The partial closure of Sela Ward Parkway has been extended

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Road closures will remain in place along Sela Ward Parkway/22nd Avenue South between the intersections of A and C streets for a little longer.

Project engineer Gabe Faggard said the portion of the street was initially slated to reopen Wednesday. However, the contractor replacing the sewer line ran into many obstacles at the intersection of B Street and Sela Ward Parkway. According to him, an additional subcontractor is needed to cut the remaining sections of the pipeline.

Faggard estimates the intersections will be closed for another two weeks.

Motorists are advised to use 18th and 26th avenues to enter downtown. There is a turn signal when it is closed.

The 22nd Avenue Bridge between A Street and Front Street is expected to reopen Wednesday after replacement lights and shoulder and sidewalk work.
