Salem man charged in Henry County arson

HENRY CO., Iowa (KWQC) – A Salem man has been charged with arson in Henry County after deputies say he started a fire and damaged a barn.

James Cleary, 18, is charged with second-degree arson, a Class C felony.

The Salem Fire Department and Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a warehouse fire at 1500 335th Street in Salem, Iowa, at approximately 2:26 a.m. Nov. 4, according to a news release. Other fire departments came to the rescue as the fire spread to the surrounding fields.

Deputies said the fire started again around 7:44 a.m. and the Salem Fire Department responded again.

According to deputies, the fire was suspicious. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Marshal’s Office investigated.
