Nye County resumes controversial ballot counting Thursday

Las Vegas, Nev. (FOX5) – Nye County Clerk Mark Kampf said the county will restart its hand counting process with some changes starting Thursday.

Kampf said the Nevada Secretary of State approved the revised process on Sunday, Nov. 5. The new process will be a “silent” manual count where they no longer announce the votes out loud. Instead, three volunteers count the ballots independently while working silently.

Nye County asked for volunteers to join them for informational sessions on how to help with the hand count. Information sessions and volunteer registration are scheduled for 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. at the Electric Valley Conference Center.

The city said if you can’t make the meeting on Wednesday, they will let you know about the process Thursday morning at the VEA and “get you up and running.”

“We are under pressure to complete this process by November 17, which does not leave us much time,” it said in a statement. “I would appreciate every registered voter in Nevada to step up and help us reach our goal. We may need to work overtime and weekends to count all the ballots. .”
