Iowa Republican Governor Reynolds won re-election over Democrat Dejardin

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds won after campaigning on a record of tax cuts and conservative deals for the state’s economy.

Reynolds defeated Democrat Deirdre DeGerre after a campaign in which the incumbent touted her success in building an additional $2 billion even as she pushed tax cuts.

Reynolds was appointed governor in 2017 and narrowly won a year later, but his re-election bid was never in doubt.

Polls for months have shown Reynolds in favor of DeJear, a Des Moines small business owner. DeJear was trying to become the nation’s first black woman elected governor.
