A tangled web. Kody Brown he found out for real about his “unraveling” relationship with Mary Brown to the latest Sister Wives episode — comparing it to a “sudden” separation from Christine Brown.
“I want to work on the relationship, but Kody basically said it’s not working. Does that mean we’re just not married anymore?” Mary, 51, asked during Sunday’s Nov. 6 episode of the TLC series as she reflected on Christina’s choice to leave her family. “I don’t think so.”
Kody, meanwhile, admitted on camera, “I don’t really consider myself married to Mary.”
Mary and Kody were married in 1990. The Wyoming native got married spiritually Janelle Brown 1993 and Christine, 50, the following year. Robyn Brown joined the family in 2010, and four years later, Mary and Kody’s romance faced a major upheaval.
Kody legally divorced his first wife in 2014 to marry Robyn, 43, and adopt her three children from a previous union. Mary and Kody’s relationship has faced many more ups and downs since then — and after her mom’s death in 2021, Mary seemed to be spending more time away from her spouse while running her bed and breakfast in Utah.
“If she wanted to move on and marry someone else, she wouldn’t have fought with me,” Cody revealed during Sunday’s episode when talking about Mary.
He later told the cameras: “Mary’s relationship with her family is strained. There is a whole history of fighting. From the very beginning.”
The father of 18 went on to explain: “The difference between me and Christina and me and Mary is that Mary and I have been unraveling our relationship over the years. Christine found out that she would never be happily married to me, but her departure was so sudden that I – it was not unraveled for me. It was like being kicked to the curb.”
Christine, who announced her split from Kody in November 2021, hinted during the latest episode of TLC that her exit from their plural family was partly because her ex was more concerned with his fourth wife.
“Leaving Kody and leaving my family and moving, I’m really changing the dynamic,” she said during the confessional. “When I tell you it keeps me up at night, trust me it keeps me up at night.”
In the end, Christine revealed that she had a “clear conscience knowing that I did my best”. She added: “Being a mom is the most important thing to me. But I couldn’t in good conscience stay married to someone who had favorites and made it very well known. And someone who broke my children’s hearts. Instead, I had to stand with them. And I wanted to do it for them.”
Kody disputed Kristina’s — and the other wives’ — claims that Robyn has the best relationship with him.
“It’s more for nuance than just saying, Kody favors Robyn. It’s not even a cool statement,” he admitted. “It’s for her to communicate and for her children to communicate. They include me.”
