Fifth graders will one day be college students

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Before heading off to high school, fifth graders had the opportunity to experience college life at Arizona Western College (AWC).

AWC invited fifth grade students on Thursday, November 3, 2022, to I’m going to college event

In total, the fifth grade students included 142 elementary school students in Yuma County.

In addition, 18 faculty members from AWC, Arizona State University, and others volunteered to teach students the college course.

Additionally, students enjoyed lunch with actual college students on the field, met the AWC Cheer Team, and experienced an achievement ceremony.

“We plant the seeds for the future to turn college ideas into career goals,” said Biridiana Martinez, AWC Coordinator of Admissions, Recruitment and Outreach.

“The I Go to College event provides early college awareness to students in our community with an exceptional hands-on experience.”
