An East Louis man admitted to stealing catalytic converters in St. Louis

ST. Louis, Mo. (KMOV) – An East St. Louis man has pleaded guilty to transporting and selling stolen goods.

Authorities say 31-year-old Matthew Jennings admitted that in early December 2019, he and 38-year-old D’Ante Carter stole 39 catalytic converters from cars in the area and sold them for scrap. Jennings also attempted to steal three more trucks and vans that were parked overnight at landscaping companies, commercial businesses and an organization that helps the disabled.

Reports say Jennings used a chainsaw to cut them down while Carter acted as a lookout. The two then sold the converters to a recycling company in Illinois.

Jennings is scheduled to be sentenced on February 10 and faces up to five years in prison. Carter was sentenced in September to nine months in prison and ordered to pay up to $46,001 in restitution to victims.
