A woman has been charged for the first time in court in the fatal shooting of a 1-year-old boy

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A woman accused in a fatal shooting that injured an infant and mother on Friday will appear in court Monday.

This will be the first appearance in court for Juanita Bruce, 19, since she turned herself in over the weekend as her mother remains in hospital.

The incident happened on Friday afternoon on Breedlove Street in the New Chicago area.

The incident began with Bruce and another woman fighting before Bruce allegedly pulled a gun from her purse and allegedly shot a woman and her infant child and grazed another woman who was nearby, the police report said.

A 1-year-old child died at the scene.

The Memphis Police Department says Bruce left the scene in a gray Infiniti, but turned himself in a few hours later.

He faces nine charges, including first-degree murder and four counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Bruce admitted to shooting a woman when she turned around, but said he did not intend to shoot the 1-year-old girl, the affidavit said.
