A winter storm is brewing on Wednesday

SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – A A winter storm has been issued for much of the region, which includes the Pierre and Aberdeen areas, beginning Wednesday night and continuing into Friday morning. This storm system will move into the area on Tuesday, bringing a chance of light rain. Highs Tuesday will be in the 50s, with some areas nearing 60. As this storm moves northeast and develops, we could get some thunderstorms in the eastern part of the region Wednesday through Thursday, and snow in the west before it’s all over. Friday morning.

In terms of snow accumulation, the best chances will be in northeastern South Dakota, central South Dakota, and western South Dakota. The eastern part of the region like around Sioux Falls, Yankton and into Minnesota and Iowa doesn’t see much. Stay tuned to our first batch of weather alerts as we determine the exact totals.

Next to this system, we see very cold air settling into the region. Weekend highs will only be in the 20s and overnight lows will be in the single digits.
