SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – While the future of the WH Lyon Fairgrounds remains up in the air, the Sioux Empire Fair Association is digging for a new facility.
Officials held a foundation laying ceremony for the indoor cattle show ring. The current field is outside and exposed to the air. The future of the fair is in question this year after the owner of a nearby mine offered to buy the land. The task force is also considering what can be done with the area. Fairground officials say this new facility is an investment in the future.
“This is a strategically located building that can be expanded to the east as well as to the north as the task force continues to study the property when they come back with their recommendations,” said Scott Wick, president of WH Lyon Fairgrounds. , and CEO. “We believe this building will be in the right place for that expansion.”
The new facility was funded by private donations and required no tax dollars. It is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
