Las Vegas, Nev. (FOX5) – During their football game against the Air Force Falcons on Saturday night, the UNLV Rebels took a moment to thank and honor fallen Metro Police Officer Truong Thai for his sacrifice and service.
The announcer at Allegiant Stadium said “thank you” as a picture of Thai appeared on the big screen. The audience thanked him for his service with loud applause.
Thai died Thursday when a suspect shot him while he and his partner responded to a domestic disturbance call.
Tragedy struck close to home for the UNLV Rebels; The shooting happened on a road bordering its campus, just steps away from UNLV’s Stan Fulton Building.
UNLV lost to Air Force 42-7 in last night’s game.
Saturday was also the 2022 homecoming for the Rebels, which marked the end of a week full of activities celebrating students, alumni, faculty and beyond.
