SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – Union Gospel Mission is partnering with Cricket Wireless to provide free phones to those without access.
This was done through various activities organized by the Union Gospel Mission
And with no hidden fees or costs, Cricket Wireless wants to help improve communication among those in the Sioux Falls community, especially those in need.
“What’s this, free phones, free service, if you qualify under the programs, we can refer you, and when we refer you, we’ll give you a free phone, free service. So this text and is unlimited calls and that’s 5g of data every month,” said Kristen Jensen, Marketing Manager, Cricket Wireless.
Ellie Heckel, director of marketing development at Commonwealth Gospel Mission, says it just made sense to get involved and help raise awareness.
“We have a lot of people that we serve, men, women, who need a phone for service work and they need a phone for their programs that are on mission. So it makes sense for us to partner with people like Cricket Wireless and other organizations so we can get the phones out to them,” said Ellie Heckel, director of marketing for Union Gospel Mission.
They say this is the next step in getting people back on their feet.
“You need a phone to be able to call your family, you need it for work, if you’re trying to reach out to other programs, you need to have a contact number to get back to you,” Jensen said.
And while anyone who gets help can sign up for Cricket Wireless and get a free phone, they say events like the block party and tomorrow will help attract more people.
“We have outside opportunities where they can go to the store and just sign up, but events give us a better result. The bigger the event, the better the result,” said Jensen.
Both Union Gospel Mission and Cricket Wireless say they are looking for more organization in the Sioux Falls area.
The event will be held tomorrow from 16:00 to 18:00 in the hall of the men’s center of the Gospel Missions.
If you qualify, you can get free phone and service.
