LEE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Pasco Sheriff’s Office have arrested two men involved in a robbery on Hickory Island.
Deputies were alerted to the robbers after observing a jet ski parked next to a warehouse that had been pushed into the mangroves by Hurricane Ian’s storm surge. The shed door was open. However, earlier in the day, deputies noticed it was closed.
After arriving on scene, deputies approached the shed and made contact with Dustin Oran Ballentine, 38, and Austin Charles Ballentine, 29. The investigation determined that the suspects stole several items from the shed.
“If you take advantage of victims in a state of emergency, you will face the consequences,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “Teamwork led to the arrest of this scumbag, and together we will ensure law and order in Lee County.”
Both were arrested for grand theft and burglary during the state of emergency
